Teeming with bass and home to wildlife ranging from eagles to manatee, this is the site of the National Audubon Society Wildlife Sanctuary. It is so shallow that egrets and storks are frequently seen wading more than a mile offshore. The 750-square-mile body of water is the largest freshwater lake entirely within the boundaries of one state. This is truly a bass-fisherman’s paradise.




Tours via air-boats take passengers through Lake Okeechobee’s swamps which are teeming with wildlife such as ibis, egrets, storks, bobcats, turtles, otters, snakes , alligators and even an occasional manatee. Trained naturalists lecture and guide tour boats through the lake’s 28,500-acre National Audubon Society Wildlife Sanctuary.
