Our property is bordered on two sides by jungle. An unpaved road borders the back of the property. The jungle setting is usually pretty quiet except for the troops of Howler monkeys that travel back and forth occasionally through the tree tops. They have been known to greet the sun rising in the east with their normal rousing collective cheer. Traffic noise is minimal since the road is not a thoroughfare. However, we all experience the odd motorcycle that goes by early in the morning taking someone to work. There are no streetlights and the sun goes down at approximately 6:00 pm every day (we are only 10 degrees above the equator so the sun goes down at 6:00 pm and comes up at 6:00 am just like clockwork plus or minus a couple of minutes all year long). Hence, a small flashlight is a good item to carry for walks after dark unless there is a full moon.

Activities in the Area

Take a horseback ride to the Nosara River falls, enjoy a guided ocean kayak tour, visit the black sand beaches of Ostionial for a peek at the greenback turtles laying their eggs (or possibly seeing the little turtles hatching and finding their way down to the ocean). Go deep sea fishing with Surfer Tom where you can catch Tuna, Marlin or Swordfish. The Marlin and Swordfish are "catch and release" but the Tuna and many other varieties can be brought home for a mouth-watering feast. Watch the humpback whales crash down in the blue waters. Inevitably there will be a local "rodeo" somewhere in the district. Watch the local cultural dancing, enjoy a truly unique rodeo with bull-riding and other exciting events. Sample the local gaming machines and join in the Rodeo Queen entourage. Typically, the evening will close with a dance where everyone is welcome. The music is fast with a strong latin dance beat. If you come at the right time of the year, you can catch the local Fashion Show where local designers display their designs using an combination of local and San Jose models (male and female). Surfing is a regular sport on Playa Guiones - our beach. Typically the surfers are out extremely early in the morning, catching the best waves. They then retire for a food break and a long siesta until the evening surf comes up. You can rent surf boards and "boogy boards" at several locations. Snorkelling attracts a regular audience to the tidal pools at the South end of Playa Guiones. For the more adventurous, you can take a short drive North to the more extensive underwater sights at San Juanillo. You can rent snorkeling equipment at several locations in the area. Remember to wear a T-shirt in the water if you are susceptible to sunburn. Of course, there are many other activities available for you. We can help arrange horseback tours, kayak trips, whitewater rafting trips, jungle tours, midnight crawler expeditions, turtle tours, snorkelling, deep sea fishing, volcano expeditions, etc. Merely check with our Manager at the office for currently available events.
