Want a Hawaiian vacation? One where you stay in a comfortable home across the street from a Black Sand Beach? Where the view sometimes includes a volcanic eruption? In late 1990, the ongoing eruption of Kilauea's Kupaianaha vent covered the famous Black Sand Beach at Kaimu Bay. At the same time a new beach was created a short distance away. From Kaimu, if lava is flowing into the ocean, you may see a plume of steam rising high in the air as the Big Island grows bigger still. At night you may view lava descend the mountain.
#1 Kaimu Bay is both comfortable and quaint. Our home was built with love. Tile came from the old Parker Ranch Dairy. The windows have rippled glass from a century ago, saved from a cabin on the Kona Coast. The hand painted bathroom floor shows coral, rocks and Honu (turtles) swimming. Kaimu is an environment of contrast. Black lava, clean air, blue ocean and green foliage are host to mango, papaya, coconut, banana, pineapple and hibiscus. While the home has satellite TV and VCR, you are likely to spend most of your time outside.
